Ideal Word Counts for Social Media Posts [Infographic]

You might remember a couple weeks back I was talking about how our attention spans have shrunk to that of a goldfish. Yup, the average attention span is now 8 seconds.

We’re considerably less about reading these days, too. If you had to choose between reading a bunch of text, or watching a video that taught you the same thing, I think I know which one you’d choose.

Attention spans are short, people don’t like to read… so it’s important to create social content that is sort and sweet.

Additionally, if you can say it in an image, say it in an image, not in words, even if that means putting words on an image.

Today’s infographic is all about keeping it short and sweet.

Here are the Ideal Word Counts for Social Media Posts:

  • Facebook: Between 40-80 characters
  • Twitter: 100-120 characters
  • G+ Headline: 60 characters
  • LinkedIn post: 25 words
  • Pinterest: 200 character descriptions

Blog posts are the exception to the rule. Posts that are between 1,000 to 2,000 words rank higher in Google searches than others.
